One of the most simple maintenance items a homeowner can perform on their Central, Ductless Split, Thru the wall or window A/C unit or units is... Change or clean the air filter!!!! This usually quick and easy task can save BIG $$$$$ on your electric bill. I am a certified HVACR Technician and have experienced first hand how a dirty filter can cause iced up A/C systems of all types. Even if the filter isn't dirty enough to cause icing, it can greatly reduce air flow and increase run time to satisfy the thermostat. The longer your A/C system runs the more electricity it uses. Ask your HVAC service person how to change or clean your filters during your next heating or cooling service and they will be happy to show you! I will post some more descriptive instructions in the near future about how to perform this task.
